What we do

Everyday Abilities runs three programs for people with disabilities and the family and caregivers around them. We do not sell products.

Rehabilitation counseling

One-on-one sessions with Walter Delson, in person in the Bay Area, and beyond by phone or video call. Sessions focus on real life: work, school, health, relationships, and the everyday tasks that take more energy than they should, including whether a device could help. Counseling is sliding-scale; no one is turned away for inability to pay.

Equipment Library

Our Equipment Library has adaptive equipment you can see in person, so people can find out what works before anyone pays for it. Demo items include a TerrainHopper recreational all-terrain vehicle and a BerkelBike arm-and-leg powered trike.

Tech Guide

Our notes on wheelchairs, seating, beds, exercise, and computer access devices: who each one may help, what to ask your clinician, and ways to pay for it.

Why we do this work

Walter Delson has been paraplegic since a motorcycle accident in 1992, when he was 14. He studied philosophy, then earned a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from Salve Regina University in 2010, and started Everyday Abilities in 2014.

That experience shapes the work: practical tools and a clear next step, so daily life is a little more workable. That is what counseling, the library, and the guide are for.
