What it is
Corpus is the seat, back, and power positioning on many Permobil chairs. Depending on the setup, it can tilt, recline, raise the legs, raise the whole seat, or tip forward, and it can remember positions or run a pressure-relief routine for you.
Who it may help
Power wheelchair users who need to shift position through the day for skin, comfort, breathing, or reaching things.
Questions to ask your clinician
- Which power seat functions do I actually need, and which can I justify to insurance?
- Would seat elevation help me reach, transfer, or talk eye to eye?
- Can the chair be set to remind me or help me do pressure relief?
Paying for it
Equipment like this is often paid for, at least in part, by Medicare, Medi-Cal, private insurance, or the VA when a clinician documents why you need it. Coverage rules change and denials happen, so ask your clinician and supplier what paperwork is needed. If insurance says no, a grant program such as the Permobil Foundation may be worth a look.
Can I try one?
