What it is
Ride Designs, part of Aspen Seating, makes ready-made cushions such as the Java and custom-shaped cushions such as the Ride Custom 2. They are fitted through trained providers.
Who it may help
Wheelchair users who have had pressure injuries or are at high risk, and people who need a cushion shaped to their own body.
Questions to ask your clinician
- Is a ready-made cushion enough, or do I need a custom one?
- Is there a trained Ride provider near me?
- How will we know if it is working for my skin?
Paying for it
Equipment like this is often paid for, at least in part, by Medicare, Medi-Cal, private insurance, or the VA when a clinician documents why you need it. Coverage rules change and denials happen, so ask your clinician and supplier what paperwork is needed. If insurance says no, a grant program such as the Permobil Foundation may be worth a look.
Can I try one?
This is not in our Equipment Library right now. If you want help finding a place to see or try one, contact us.
