What it is
The M4 Nexa is a smaller power wheelchair aimed at smaller adults and tight indoor spaces, with tilt, recline, leg elevation, seat elevation, and forward tilt. Permobil has said it will reach the U.S. in stages.
Who it may help
Smaller-statured power chair users who have had to choose between a chair that fits their body and a chair with full power seating.
Questions to ask your clinician
- Is this model available to me yet, and through which supplier?
- Which seating functions do I need?
- Will it turn and fit through the spaces I use every day?
Paying for it
Equipment like this is often paid for, at least in part, by Medicare, Medi-Cal, private insurance, or the VA when a clinician documents why you need it. Coverage rules change and denials happen, so ask your clinician and supplier what paperwork is needed. If insurance says no, a grant program such as the Permobil Foundation may be worth a look.
Can I try one?
